Angela Armenta is one of the first women with Down Syndrome to run a marathon. She is 26 years old and lives in the San Fernando Valley, just outside of Los Angeles, California. Angela is no stranger to athletics. She was the first person with Down Syndrome to play in her Tee-ball league as a child. In high school she played Special Ed team sports (Basketball, Baseball, Kickball and Cheerleading), and participated in track & field events in the Special Olympics. Angie's honors include Gold Medals at the California State Special Olympics in the 50 meter and 25 meter running events. Tackling the 26.2 miles of the Los Angeles Marathon on March 18 was one of Angela's most incredible accomplishments. She ran her first marathon alongside her younger sister, Rebecca, and her older brother, Joseph.
Angela and her friend Antoinette are two of the first women with Down Syndrome to accomplish the monumental task of completing a marathon.
